Diana Paola Saldaña Ramírez
30 years
Union: FED CUT, Peru
UNI Care
Paola works in the Health sector and Peru but she is relatively new to the union. She joined because a friend at the union invited her and since then, she has a growing passion for union work. In 2019 she joined the UNI Americas Youth Mentoring Program with other young unionists from Peru and Colombia.
“This program has helped me develop new skills, learn to work as a team and follow a work plan. I really enjoy the teaching methodology both in the theoretical and practical sense, as well as the language that is used, which is aimed at young people”.
Paola works now with her tutor in organizing workshops aimed at young people as well as in the promotion of virtual activities to involve more young people in the union who, due to the lack of opportunities, could not do so before.
“As I have learned during this time, it is essential to have a strengthened youth community that is actively involved in order to be able to fight for the defense of the rights of all workers”
Paola is right. With more young people in union work, unions can build strength and fight for the rights of all workers, including better wages, social protection, the protection against violence and harassment and most important, for a better future for all young workers. #UNIYeah
